As many UK and international corporations prepare to outsource jobs overseas, other corporations are working to keep them at home literally as an alternative for the traditional brick and mortar business models. Home Shoring is the name given to the practice of transferring service industry work out of offices to home-based workers. The New York Times described home shoring as "a sibling of off shoring... but while off shoring uses agents based overseas, home shoring literally keeps agents at home, where technology has empowered and enabled them to work."
